Emery Hale 1930-2022

Lawrence “Emery” Hale, 91, Mayetta, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2022, due to a house fire at his home on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation.

He was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Mayetta, the son of Joseph P. Hale and Jane Blandin Puckkee. He graduated from Circleville High School in 1948 and attended Highland Community College and Haskell University, earning an associate’s degree in liberal arts for heating and air conditioning.

Mr. Hale served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for Orkin Extermination and later for Potawatomi Housing Authority in maintenance.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He was an active member of We-Ta-Se Post 410 for many years.

He married Barbara Marie Marshno in 1954. She died in 1969.

Survivors include a son, Martin Hale and wife Donna, Holton; a brother, Roy Hale, Mayetta; a granddaughter, Megan Hale, Denver, Colo.; and many extended family members.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Shipshee Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
