Elmer Davis 1925-2018

Lewis “Elmer” Davis, 92, Topeka, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 18, 1925 at Hoyt, the son of Frank H. and Josie A. Sallee Davis. He graduated from Hoyt High School in 1943 and had lived in Topeka most of his life.

Mr. Davis was a captain in the Topeka Fire Department, where he served from Nov. 2, 1953, until his retirement on Dec. 21, 1979. He and his wife farmed north of Topeka for several years.

He was a member of Firefighters Union Local 83 of Topeka.

He married Doris Faye Fordice on Sept. 30, 1945. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, James L. Davis and wife Linda and Marvin A. Davis and wife Julie, all of Topeka; a daughter, Judy K. Donnelly and husband Patrick, Topeka; seven grandchildren, Christopher Davis and wife Keli, McPherson, Justen Davis and wife Crissy, Lone Tree, Colo., Loren Davis and wife Nikki, Topeka, Ann Ellebracht and husband Brad, Columbia, Mo., John Davis and wife Melanie, Overland Park, Sharah Davis, Lawrence, and Clint Davis and wife Jennifer, Overland Park; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Davis and Ralph Davis, and a sister, Lorraine Cummings.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence Ave., Topeka. Interment will be held in Hoyt Cemetery. A last alarm ceremony will be conducted by the Topeka Fire Department. Mr. Davis will lie in state after 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, where family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
