Elaine Miller 1931-2016
Elaine Caroline Miller, 84, Holton, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Holton Community Hospital.
She was born Aug. 19, 1931, in Greenleaf, the daughter of Otto and Hermena Genschorck Harz. She was raised in the Greenleaf community and attended Logan Center and Bethlehem Lutheran elementary schools before graduating in 1949 from Greenleaf High School as valedictorian. She attended Emporia State Teacher’s College, Kansas State University and The University of Kansas, earning a degree in elementary education.
Ms. Miller taught third grade in Clifton and Manhattan and also taught art in Dover, Del.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church in communities where she lived.
Survivors include a son, Richard Miller and wife Rebecca, Lake Elsinore, Calif.; a daughter, Dr. Sheryl Long and husband Warren, Irvine, Calif.; two sisters, Valera Wieters, Hutchinson, and Darlene Harvey, Topeka; and four grandchildren, Amanda Miller, Michael Miller-Knittle, Keith Long and Ryan Long. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Nadine.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Greenleaf, with Pastor Tim Lorenz officiating. Burial will be held in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Greenleaf. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
