Ed Shaw 1932-2018

Edgar “Ed” Warren Shaw, 86, Silver Lake, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Hospital.

He was born Oct. 2, 1932, in Eskridge, the son of Leo and Nellie Henderson Shaw. He graduated from Eskridge High School in 1950.

Mr. Shaw served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Supply Depot in Topeka for more than seven years, then worked for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 30 years in 1987 as a contracting officer. For the next 20 years he raised Limousin cattle.

He was a member of Silver Lake United Methodist Church, NARFE, volunteer fire fighter and Silver Lake American Legion Post 160.

He married Leah Mae Bahnmaier on July 22, 1957, in Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Steven W. Shaw and wife Cindy, Silver Lake, and Alan Shaw, Wakarusa; a daughter, Louann Austin, Silver Lake; a brother, Eldin Shaw and wife Fern, Topeka; eight grandchildren, Tracy Mercer and husband Chris, Scott Sloop and wife Rosie, Justin Shaw and wife Deb, Shanda Dorsey and husband BJ, Warren Shaw and wife Emma, Chloe Austin, Colbe Austin and Claire Austin; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Silver Lake United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
