Doug Reicherter 1942-2021

Douglas M. Reicherter, 79, of Mayetta, passed away on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021 at the University of Kansas Health System, St. Francis Campus, in Topeka.

He was born April 26, 1942 at Lillis, the son of Leo and Teresa Skoch Reicherter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

After his time in the Air Force, Doug worked as a machinist at the Charleston Naval Shipyard in Charleston, S.C. In 1974, he began working for the Midwest Machine Works in Topeka. He later was the Supervisor of Plumbers at the Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka. He also owned and operated Reicherter Construction for many years.

He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton, a life member of Holton Knights of Columbus Council No. 4219 and a 4th Degree member of Thomas A. McNeive Assembly in St. Marys.

Doug married Carolyn M. Schurlknight on Jan. 11, 1964 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Charleston, S.C. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Angela Allen (Joe), Salina and Teresa Reicherter (Ryan Crawford), Leawood; two sons, Keith Reicherter (Jennifer), Mayetta; and Paul Reicherter (Jessica Jellison), Prairie Village; and 14 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery west of Holton. Doug will lie in state after 9 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 8 p.m.
