Doris Rogers 1926-2016
Doris Jean Rogers, 89, Horton, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Vintage Park in Hiawatha.
She was born Oct. 28, 1926, in Effingham, the daughter of Lester and Lorena Hawk Chalfant. She graduated from Effingham High School.
Mrs. Rogers taught school for Pleasant Ridge School for four years. She later became a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 20 years. She also was a former 4-H leader and served on the Atchison County Life Stock Board for 30 years.
She married Ralph Rogers on May 25, 1947, in Huron. He died March 15, 2005. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lester Chalfant.
Survivors include a son, Larry Rogers and wife Annette, Horton; a daughter, Lynn Lanter and husband Keith, Horton; a sister, Helen Harden, Atchison; six grandchildren, Michael Rogers, Aaron Lanter and wife Robyn, Andrew Lanter and wife Laura, Tonya Merz and husband Dean, John Isaacs and wife Holly and Matthew Isaacs and wife Amy; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 21 at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, where family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be held in Horton Cemetery.
