Doris Montgomery 1927-2017
Doris Marie Keim Montgomery, 89, Holton, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, in Lansing.
She was born Dec. 30, 1927, in Holton, to Harvey D. and Gertrude Boyd Keim. She graduated from Holton High School in 1946 and attended Ottawa University in 1947-1948.
Mrs. Montgomery worked at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Mo., Key Rexall Drugs in Overland Park, Stay & Play Day Care Center at Antioch Hills Baptist Church in Overland Park and retired from Kenney Healthmart Drug Store in Lenexa after 17 years. She returned to Holton in 1992 to care for her father.
She served as volunteer coordinator for Meals on Wheels Holton Community Hospital. She was a member of Holton First Baptist Church and sang in the choir, a member of Crusaders Sunday School Class, Holton Business Women, Holton VFW Ladies Auxiliary 1367 and Heart of Jackson Humane Society.
She married Marion D. Montgomery on Nov. 7, 1948. He died June 30, 1985. She also was preceded in death by her mother, Gertrude Keim, on Nov. 18, 1975; her father, Harvey Keim, on June 4, 1994; and a brother, Robert M. Keim, on Dec. 29, 1986.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Burke, Lansing, and Carol Kabrey and husband Doug, Gravois Mills, Mo.; two sons, David Montgomery and wife Nancy, Owasso, Okla., and Steven Montgomery and wife Cindy, Clarksville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial graveside services were held Saturday in Holton Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
