Derek Shopteese 1991-2017

Derek Randall “Wabski” Shopteese, 26, Topeka, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2017.

He was born May 1, 1991, in Topeka, the son of Leland John Matchie and Victoria Ann Shopteese. He attended school in Rapid City, S.D.

Mr. Shopteese had worked for Security Benefit in Topeka.

He was a member of Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

Survivors include his father, Leland Matchie, Mayetta; his mother, Victoria Shopteese, Topeka; four sisters, Joy Matchie and Keirsten Hale, both of Mayetta, Jana Shopteese, Topeka, and Jennifer Wood, Carbondale; eight brothers, Jason Wood and Jesse Kitterman, both of Topeka, Joshua Kitterman, Kansas City, Mo., Nigel Matchie, Leland Matchie Jr. and Dennis Matchie, all of Topeka, Todd Matchie, Konawa, Okla., and Shane Turnbull, Boulder, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

A wake was held Friday evening at Nozhackum Hall on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation. Burial was held Saturday morning in the Danceground Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
