Deniece Masqua 1958-2018

Deniece Marie “Namigapyea” Masqua, 60, Horton, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at her home.

She was born April 8, 1958, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Sylvester and Geraldine L. Shopteese Masqua. She graduated from St. Paul’s High School in 1976 in Marty, S.D., and earned her asso­ciate’s degree at Highland Commu­nity College and her bachelor of ac­counting degree at Missouri West­ern.

Mrs. Masqua worked for the Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas in finance and elections. She was director of Child Support Enforcement, Gaming Commissioner and Kickapoo Hous­ing Board.

She was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas.

She married Jesse Kazena. He pre­ceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Darrell, Sylvester and Donald Masqua.

Survivors include a son, Tyrone A. Mendez, Horton; three sisters, Ly­nia Eagle, Horton, and Lily Hall and Gina Wahweotten, both of Mayetta; and four grandchildren, Cheyenne, Tehya, Sequouah and Montana.

Drum services were held Tuesday evening at the Kickapoo Community Building on the Kickapoo Reserva­tion. Burial was held Wednesday morning in Kennekuk Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
