Delbert Mapes 1925-2015

 

Delbert A. Mapes Sr., 89, Topeka, formerly of Whiting and Mayetta, died Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Plaza West in Topeka.

He was born May 24, 1925, in Waterville, the son of Benjamin Harry and Pearl Holland Mapes.

Mr. Mapes worked for the Whiting Grain Elevator for 17 years and later at Pauline Co-Op for 12 years.

He was a member of Northland Christian Church.

He married Helen L. McDonald on Dec. 8, 1942, in Marysville. She died in 1984. He married Ellen Mitchell on May 25, 1985, in Topeka. She died in 1994. He mar­ried Frances E. Vawter on April 24, 1995, in Lyndon. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Cathy L. Hartley and husband Dan, Holton; a son, Del­bert A. Mapes Jr., Lawrence; two sisters, June Jorgensen and Maxine Oatney, both of Waterville; a brother, Dean Mapes, in Guam; two granddaughters, Dayna Peek and husband Travis and Carrie An­dersen and husband Dustin; four great-grandsons, Brayden, Rogen, Colden and Jaxon; and several stepchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at Mercer Fu­neral Home in Holton. Burial followed in Springhill Cemetery.
