Delbert Ackerman 1940-2022

Delbert F. Ackerman, 81, formerly of Netawaka, died Thursday, March 24, 2022, at his niece’s home in Lenexa.

He was born July 4, 1940, at Vermillion, the son of Vern and Mary Montague Ackerman. He graduated from Vermillion High School in 1959.

Mr. Ackerman served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He worked on a dairy farm and for Anderson Construction. He also detailed rotor cutters at Alamo Manufacturing in Holton.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Vermillion.

He married Lois Christy on Sept. 14, 1979, in Hiawatha. She died July 2, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son from a previous marriage; three brothers, Eldon Ackerman, Leo Ackerman and a brother in infancy; and two sisters, Pauline White and a sister in infancy.

Survivors include his niece, Patricia Roberts and husband Kelly, Lenexa; a daughter, Waneta Ackerman, Netawaka; two children from a previous marriage; a sister, Fay Dowine, Marysville; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Aalayah Ackerman.

Funeral services were held Monday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors followed in Netawaka Cemetery.
