Dean Sharp 1930-2022

Warren “Dean” Sharp, 92, of Holton, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at The Pines in Holton, with family by his side.

He was born Jan. 27, 1930, in Clay Center, the son of Albert Everett and Laura Mae (Conkright) Sharp. 

Dean graduated from Clay Center High School in 1947. He was a member of the Holton community since 1991 and formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He worked for more than 34 years as a clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad, and he was a self-employed carpenter and a farmer. In 1993, he began as pastor for the Community of Christ, located from his home. He was a member of Jackson County Friends of Hospice. 

Dean married JoAnn Marie Hannan on Oct. 8, 1950, in Riley. They celebrated more than 71 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn, of the home; son, David W. Sharp (Cindy) of Shidler, Okla.; sister, Lois J. Sharp-Winter of Topeka; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Cathy Jo Chandler and Arlene Kay Cathey; a son, Gary D. Sharp; two sisters, Wilma Arlene Sharp and Shirley Funk; a brother, Loren Dale Sharp; and a stepbrother, Lloyd Johnson. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka. Dean will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 7 at Mercer Funeral Home.
