David Ross 1940-2016

 

David C. Ross, 75, Valley Falls, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Medicalodges Jackson County in Holton.

He was born April 1, 1940, at Lucas, Texas, the son of Douglas Cleveland “Pike” and Ruth Irene Deal Ross. He graduated from Wylie High School, Wylie, Texas, in 1958. He served in the US Army from 1958-1963, and was stationed in South Korea.

David worked at the Sherwin-Williams Paint Plant in Garland, Texas, and Gaines Foods, Pet Food Division, in Topeka. He was an electrician at the Lansing Correc­tional Facility when he retired in 2004.

He loved to hunt, fish, take care of his farms, collect coins and help his wife, Donna, with her cookie jar collection.

He married Donna Sue Lederer, Jan. 12, 1962, at Wylie, Texas. She died April 13, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Bobby and Danny Ross. His family included 10 half-brothers and sisters.

Survivors include four daughters, Pam (Charles) Erhart, Charlotte (Kevin) Cox, Davida Perkins and Betsy Ross (Angelo Eaton), all of Valley Falls; a brother, Perry (Mary) Ross, Lake Tawakoni, Texas; eight grandchildren, Amelia Erhart, Matthew Erhart, Jennifer Cox, Aaron (Samantha) Cox, David Cox, Carrie Perkins, Katie Perkins (Casey Jones) and P. D. Perkins; and six great-grandchildren, Chloe and Emma Cox, and Andrew, Caleb, Alexis and Austin Jones.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17 in Valley Falls Cemetery with mili­tary honors by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
