David Gilbert 1949-2021
David Lewis Gilbert, 72, Holton, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, at Medicalodges Jackson County.
He was born Aug. 8, 1949, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Charles and Mariemma (Gorman) Gilbert. He graduated from Springfield High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Louisiana University.
Mr. Gilbert served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam War. He was a car dealer for Heritage Motors in Odessa, Mo., and worked as a loan officer for many banking institutions for most of his life.
He was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church, a member and past president of Holton Lions Club and a member of Holton VFW Post 1367.
He married Sandra K. Murphy Mitchell-Studebaker-Gilbert on April 1, 2013, in Council Grove. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Andrew Gilbert, San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Suzanne Kreutzer, Overland Park; and a sister, Anne Beidler and husband Peter, Seattle, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mariemma Gilbert; and a brother, Gorman Gilbert.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Inurnment with military honors conducted by Holton VFW Post 1367 will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
