Darlene Haug (1937-2022)

Darlene L. Haug, 85, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born July 20, 1937 at Axtell, the daughter of Melvin and Anna Stueve Schulte. She graduated from Baileyville High School 1955. She worked in Kansas City and Topeka at various jobs.

Darlene married William L. “Bill” Haug Jr., her husband of 64 years, on April 26, 1958 at Baileyville.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta and the Altar Society at the church. She was a former member of the German-American Club in Topeka and the Red Hat Society. She was active with her church, enjoyed her grandchildren and was always willing to step in and help in any and all school functions for her children. She enjoyed traveling, her flowers and her dogs.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Anna Schulte; her siblings, Kenneth Schulte, Gerald Schulte, Robert Schulte, Rosemary Rude, Helen Reinsch, Cora Ann Heiman and Juanita Schulte; and one grandson, Rory Haug.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Haug, of the home; four children, Becky (Don) Schrick, Atchison, Bill (Ann) Haug, Topeka, Steve (Belinda) Haug, Topeka, and Greg (Michelle) Haug, Zionsville, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery at Hoyt. Darlene will lie in state from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. She will lie in state after 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 8 p.m.
