Darlene Hall 1935-2022

Darlene Hall, 86, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022.

Darlene was born Dec. 31, 1935, in Holton, the daughter of Leon and Laverne (Kling) Dial. She graduated from Holton High School in 1954 and received a Registered Nurse degree in 1956 from Stormont-Vail School of Nursing.

Darlene was a dedicated nurse caregiver to the Topeka community for nearly 60 years, serving as a Stormont-Vail floor nurse, in the emergency room/trauma department and as executive director of Stormont-Vail’s Home Health Care and Hospice. Darlene worked for a number of years for Powell, Sherwood and Perdue Surgeons, Topeka, as the first physician’s assistant.

Darlene served in leadership roles with the board of directors of the American Cancer Association (national and Kansas), Kansas Home Care Association, National Association of Home Care and many more. In retirement, Darlene worked with Health Wise 55. She was the proud recipient of Stormont-Vail’s Bal Jeffery Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998.

Darlene married Donald L. Hall on April 7, 1957, in Holton.

Survivors include their son, Todd Hall (Kimberle) of Eagle, Neb.; grandchildren Chad Hall (Tree Branch) of Chicago, Ill., Dylan Hall of Austin, Texas, Grant Hall (Madison Harpenau) of Omaha, Neb. and Ian Hall (Samantha Mesa) of Topeka; and great-grandson Cash Hall. Also surviving are sisters, Karen (Bruce) Welliever of Holton, Nancy (Larry) Justice, of Havensville, and Vicki (Jim) Curtis, of Holton; and brothers, Tom (Vicki) Bell, of Topeka and Thad (Sheila) Bell, Pueblo West, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Lee Dial; and her son, Timothy Hall.

Darlene deeply loved her family, friends and the community she served in healthcare. Darlene, known as “Mimi” to the grandchildren, particularly loved and was very proud of her four grandsons and great-grandson.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Mount Hope Chapel. Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life services.

Darlene’s passion for caring for people shined throughout her life. In celebration of her dedication to nursing and her overwhelming compassionate spirit, the Hall family has created the M. Darlene Hall, RN, Education Scholarship Fund to ensure future generations of passionate individuals have the same opportunity to build skills and save lives through a career in nursing.
