Dan Snyder 1949-2022

Dan Snyder 1949-2022

Daniel L. Snyder, 72, of Roswell, N.M., passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2022.

Dan was born on July 12, 1949, to Mabel (Daniel) and Vernon Snyder in Holton. Dan spent his elementary school years in the Mayetta area, then attended Holton High School, graduating in 1967.

Following high school, Dan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving one year in Vietnam. After serving his country he worked at Goodyear in Topeka until a career change took him to the pipeline industry. Dan pipelined extensively throughout the United States until his retirement.

In 1972, Dan married Sharon Sterret of Holton and they had two sons, Harper and Taytum. Dan and Sharon later divorced.

Dan had a kind heart and a generous spirit. He loved the West and could always be identified as the guy with the big hat and western boots. Rodeos were his passion and he would travel many miles to enjoy the competition. He also treasured relics of history, frequenting Western museums and collecting momentos throughout his travels.

Dan was a self-taught mason and built hand-crafted furniture. In Dan’s most recent years, he enjoyed international excursions to the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Australia, Costa Rica, Ireland, St. Thomas and, this past December, Fiji.

Dan is survived by his son Harper and grandson Tyson Snyder, both of Holton, and his son Tatum Snyder of Holton and granddaughter Kylie Snyder of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Toka Smith (Steve) of Whidbey Island, Wash.; and a brother, Dave Snyder (Deb) of Holton. Dan is also survived by three nephews, a niece, three great-nieces and a great-nephew.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19 at First Baptist Church in Holton. A memorial service will commence at 11:30 a.m.

A private interment at Pleasant Grove Cemetery will be held at a later date.
