Dale Wichman Sr. 1945-2016

 

Dale William Wichman Sr., 71, Holton, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at a Topeka hospital.

He was born June 6, 1945, in Waterville, the son of Ernest Fredrich and Patricia F. Pickett Wichman. He had lived in Valley Falls, Clay Center and Oskaloosa before moving to Holton in 1957. He attended Holton High School.

Mr. Wichman served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967. He worked at various auto body shops in Holton and Topeka before opening his own business, Dale's Body Shop, that he owned and operated for 11 years. In 1994 he opened Dale's Used Furniture on the town square in Holton and operated it for more than 20 years.

He was a member of Holton VFW Post 1367.

He married Cheryl A. We­hrkamp on Aug. 30, 1980, in Holton. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his mother, Patricia Wichman, Holton; three daughters, Tammy Skelton, in California, Elisa Ashcraft-Arm­strong and husband Travis, Rossville, and Jennifer Wingender and husband Michael, Netawaka; a son, Dale W. Wichman II and wife Shannon, in California; his sisters, Carol Searles, Denison, and Amy Spiker and hus­band Jared, Circleville; three broth­ers, Verlin Wichman and wife Sue, Holton, Allen Wichman, Topeka, and Kevin Wichman and wife Sandy, Circleville; 11 grandchil­dren; and a great-granddaughter.

Celebration of life services were held Monday morning at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
