Dale Clements 1929-2021
Dale Lloyd Clements, 91, of Holton, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Midland Hospice with family by his side.
He was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Havensville, the son of Ralph “Ivan” and Florence Nell (Nicholas) Clements.
Dale graduated from Havensville High School in 1947. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, during the Korean War. Dale worked for Goodyear Tire Company in Topeka for more than 28 years, retiring in 1992. He also worked for various road construction companies and was a farmer.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holton and served on many committees; he also mowed and cared for the lawn at the church for 20 years. He was a member of the Holton Cemetery Board for many years and Holton VFW Post 1367. He served twice as post commander and countless hours for Holton American Legion Post 44, earning his lifetime membership.
Dale married Joy Dean Hodges on March 22, 1957, in Cassoday. They celebrated more than 64 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Joy; two sons, Vernon Clements (Caryn) of Overland Park and Chris Clements of Manhattan; two daughters, Ereline Clements of Kansas City, Mo., and Linda Clements of Topeka; a sister, Phyllis Clements of Denver, Colo.; and six grandchildren, Luke, Joe, Matt, Jordan (wife Jielyna), Samantha and Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 17 at the First United Methodist Church in Holton. Burial with military honors conducted by Holton VFW Post 1367, Holton American Legion Post 44 and Kansas Army National Guard will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
