Clinton Smith Jr. 1939-2016
Clinton Smith Jr., 77, Holton, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
He was born April 14, 1939, in Kansas City, the son of Clinton (Sr.) and Elsie Worner Smith. He graduated from ACCHS in Effingham in 1957.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in West Germany. He retired in 1997 from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Topeka after 32 years of service. He also worked at the Locomotive Finished Materials Plant at Atchison after graduating from high school and farmed north of Valley Falls.
He was a member of United Steel Workers Union Local 307.
He married Rita J. Self, Aug. 11, 1969, at Miami, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Carl Smith and wife Shelley, Aurora, Neb., Rod Smith and wife Lauren, Lawrence, and Neal Smith and wife Tara, Arvada, Colo.; two sisters, Joyce Shrader, Atchison, and Janice Heitschmidt, Cambridge, Minn.; and nine grandchildren, Vianna, Julia, Quinten, Ayeanna, Olive, Arlo, Jackson, Lucia and Lennon. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Jackie Smith; and a sister, Julia Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow in Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
