Clinton "CL" Burger 1977-2022

Clinton “CL” Loy (Ross) Burger, 45, of Netawaka, previously of Hoyt, gained his freedom from cancer on July 4, 2022, at The University of Kansas St. Francis Campus in Topeka. 

He was born Feb. 26, 1977, in Belleville, the son of William Burger and Belinda (Diamond) Kneisler. 

CL attended Mankato Grade School along with Buhler and Manhattan School Districts. CL graduated from Royal Valley High School in 1995. 

He married Linda A. Hittle on Nov. 7, 1998; they remained married until May of 2020. This union gave them three children: Jayme Conover, on Aug. 17, 1997; Colby Burger, on Feb. 16, 2000; and Zachery Burger, on Sept. 28, 2001.

Over the course of CL’s life, he obtained many trades and skills in his work. He worked in landscaping, HVAC, bail bonds, trucking, along with working for Goodyear Tire, KDOT, Long Trucking LLC in Wakarusa, Gourmet Heating and Air in Mayetta and most recently for Jackson County Road and Bridge in the road maintenance department.

CL had a combined 15 years of service between the Hoyt and Mayetta fire departments. He also served on the Thunder Hill Speedway Fire Crew and Jackson County EMS. 

CL married Angela Keithline on Oct. 17, 2020. Uniting families, he gained two sons and a daughter, Kenny Smith, Danny Smith and Katie Keithline. 

His pride came from his kids and grandkids. CL loved coaching and watching them compete in sports, 4-H, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. He also loved spending time with friends and family as well as dirt track racing.

CL had gained many “adoptive” families over the years, including his childhood friends and friends of his children. 

He is survived by his wife Angi of the home; daughter Jayme (Kirby) Conover of Maryville, Mo.; sons Colby (Madison) Burger of Rossville and Zachery (Brailey) Burger of Topeka; stepsons Kenny (Alexis) Smith of Netawaka and Danny (Janelle) Smith of Emporia; stepdaughter Katie Keithline of the home; his sisters, Liane (Jim) Austin of New Orleans, La. and Bridget (Jason) Fulkerson of Hoyt; his brothers, Kenneth (Shelly) Kneisler of Wichita, Jason Ross of Hoyt and Martin Burger of Hoyt; grandkids, Kohlton, Morgan and Kamden Conover and Layla and Payton Smith, and one on the way; his mother, Belinda Kneisler of Mankato; his mother and father in-law, Carol and Huck Keithline; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends. 

CL was proceeded in death by his grandfather Clinton J. Burger; grandfather Henry Diamond; grandmother Alberta Diamond; father and stepmother William and Kay Burger; and his uncles Charles Douglas and Leon Hall. 

CL will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 10. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July 11 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
