Charlie Scheidegger 1916-2016
Charles Edwin “Charlie” Scheidegger, 100, Holton, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at Vintage Park in Holton.
He was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Dawson, Neb., the son of George Nicholas and Carrrie Boop Scheidegger. He attended Holton schools.
Mr. Scheidegger worked for Ford Garage and Shorty Nott’s Service Station before joining the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the European Theatre. After his honorable discharge he owned and operated Shy’s Repair in Holton, retiring after 50 years. After retirement, he worked for Leeper Hardware in Holton for about five years.
He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as treasurer for many years and was Emeritus Trustee. He was also a member of VFW Post 1367.
He married Ruby Asilee Wilson on April 11, 1942, in St. Charles, Mo. She died June 14, 1993. He married Jan Bell and they were later divorced. He was also preceded in death by seven sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Scheidegger and wife Teresa, Holton, and Dennis Scheidegger, Topeka; a daughter, Connie Allen and husband Dale, Holton; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors followed in Holton Cemetery.
