Catherine Duncan 1942-2017

Catherine Alice Duncan, 75, Netawaka, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City after an accidental fire at her home.

She was born Nov. 1, 1942, in Fair Play, Mo., the daughter of Guy and Katherine Pearl Jones Schmitt. She had lived in Netawaka since 1978 and previously lived in Fairview and Holton.

Mrs. Duncan was a homemaker all of her life. She also worked for PJ’s Restaurant and briefly at Golden Eagle Casino.

She married Harold Duncan on June 28, 1978, in Whiting. He died Jan. 18, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a stepson, Lyle Duncan.

Survivors include a son, David Schraer and wife Liz, Wetmore; two daughters, Berry Schraer and husband Jerry, Netawaka, and Norma Gossman and husband Gerald, Garden City; a sister, Eleanor Hottman, Horton; a niece, Kathy Riggs, Manhattan; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Holton Cemetery.
