Carolyn Wilson 1943-2017
Carolyn Kay Leeper Wilson was born on May 23, 1943, to William (Bill) and Alberta Leeper in Holton. She had an older sister, Joyce Yvonne, and a younger brother, Robert William, both of whom she adored.
She graduated from Holton High School in 1961 and attended Kansas State University. She belonged to Kappa Delta sorority. She graduated in January of 1965 with a degree in Elementary Education. She later received her master’s degree from the University of Kansas.
Upon graduation, she taught elementary school in Cypress, Calif., for 2 1/2 years, returning to Kansas in 1967 to teach for District 49 before the small districts unified to create the Shawnee Mission School District. She taught six years at John Diemer Elementary School. She returned to teaching in 1976 and taught at Dorothy Moody until her retirement in 2008.
She was married to Sloan Richard Wilson in 1969. The couple had one son, Michael Sloan Wilson, in 1973. He was the joy of their lives.
Upon retirement, Carolyn volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Village Presbyterian Food Pantry, the Johnson County Library at Cedar Roe, the Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City, The Village Church Food Pantry and Old Mission Methodist Church in Fairway.
She is survived by her son, Mike, of Long Beach, Calif.; Joyce Alley of Little Rock, Ark.; Bob and Linda Leeper of Lenexa; her niece, Cindy and Bret Hotchkiss and family of Dallas, Texas; and nephew, Chris and Kimberly Leeper and family of DeSoto.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 13 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Old Mission United Methodist, 5519 State Park Rd., Fairway, KS 66205. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2 p.m.
