Byron Darnall 1951-2020

Byron J. “B.J.” “Ti Kẽm Si” Darnall, 68, Mayetta, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.

He was born Oct. 17, 1951, in Pawnee, Okla., the son of Garnett D. Potts and Gladys Cadue Potts. He attended schools in Sedan.

Mr. Darnall served in the U.S. Navy. He had lived on the Potawatomi Reservation for more than 25 years. He retired from PBPN Road and Bridge. 

He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and We-Ta-Se American Legion Post 410. 

Survivors include a son, James Minnick, Muncie, Ind.; a twin brother, Myron “Jim” Potts, and a brother, Benny J. Potts, both of Mayetta; two sisters, Alice Potts and Rose Potts, both of Mayetta; five half-sisters, Micki Martinez and Evie Hopkins, both of Mayetta, Loretta Cashman, Topeka, Lola Cashman, Soldier, and Ruth Freeman, Sedan; four granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother, Terry Woodruff.

A private family wake and dinner was held Tuesday evening at the Potts Homeplace, 13862 O Rd., Mayetta. Traditional Native American Burial were held Wednesday morning in Potts Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
