Bonnie Abram 1945-2016
Lavonne Marie “Bonnie” Abram, 70, Lawrence, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at her home.
She was born June 26, 1945, in Holton, the daughter of Theodore Breitigan and Mercedes M. Tuckwin and stepdaughter of Kenneth A. Degand. She graduated from Delia High School and attended Haskell Institute. She had lived in the Lawrence community since 1977 and previously in Topeka and Meriden.
Ms. Abram retired from Indian Health Services at Haskell University in 2004. She was currently an independent contractor for Indian Health Services.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and was also active in Haskell Alumni Association.
She married James C. Abram. They divorced.
Survivors include three sons, Darren Abram and wife Brandi, Linwood, Mike Abram and wife Christina, Eudora, and Brian Abram and wife Kari, Eudora; three sisters, Connie Smith and Maureen Throssell and husband Kevin, all of Mayetta, and Cheryl Gillaspie, Lawrence; three brothers, Dennis Degand, Mayetta, Greg Degand and wife Sally, Topeka, and Jimmy Degand and wife Cindy, Mayetta; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta. Burial will follow in Shipshee Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday at Sister Therese Klepac Hall at Our Lady of the Snows west of Mayetta. Family will greet friends at the hall following the rosary.
