Bob Hurd 1943-2021

Robert “Bob” Eugene Hurd Sr., 78, of Denison, passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2021.

He was born May 23, 1943, in Fort Scott, the son of Charles and Mary Katherine (Harris) Hurd Jr. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1961. After graduation, he went to Pittsburg State University. He was drafted into the Army in July of 1966.

Bob was employed by Topeka Electric Motor Repair for 48 years as an Electrical Motor Technician.

He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, of Topeka.

In his spare time, Bob enjoyed riding motorcycles, shooting guns and enjoying the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He would tinker on different projects and remodeled the home twice to make Lauretta happy. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and siblings. He liked watching old western TV shows such as Gunsmoke, M.A.S.H, Rifleman and Bonanza. He enjoyed listening to old country music by Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. He was a true cowboy at heart.

Robert married Lauretta Mae Hurd on June 9, 1963, in Hepler. She preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 2007.

Survivors include his children, Robert (Robin) E. Hurd Jr., Nicole (Justin) Holt and Shawn (Carrie) E. Hurd; grandchildren, Sierra, Alexander and Amy; and siblings, James Hurd, Sharon Zibell, Charles W. Hurd III, Susan Philbrick, Sheila Compton and Sandy Halloran. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Bob’s family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10 at Parker Price Funeral Home, 245 N.W. Independence Ave., Topeka. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11. Interment will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
