William Robert “Bill” Mick, 83, of Holton, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at The Pines South of Holton.

He was born Feb. 1, 1940, in Holton, the son of Kermit Robert and Rheva (Johnson) Mick.

Bill attended Holton schools and later earned his GED. He proudly served in the United States Army National Guard. Bill was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church.

Bill owned and operated Mick Tree Service. He worked for more than 20 years for the City of Holton, managing Prairie Lake and also worked 2½ years for KPL Gas Service.

He married Joanna Faye “JoAnn” Kranz in 1959 in Hiawatha. They celebrated more than 59 years of marriage before her passing on April 29, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Rheva Mick; a son, Danny Mick; a daughter-in-law, Christy Mick; a sister, Shirley Mick; and a brother, Lee Mick.

Bill enjoyed all outdoor activities, spending a lot of his time coon hunting and winning many championship hunts. He was a great snooker and pool player and won multiple tournaments, along with many types of card games. A favorite hobby of his was eating sweets.

Survivors include four sons, Terry Mick (Kathy), Rick Mick (Kim), Tim Mick (Sandra) and Shayne Mick (Kelli), all of Holton; a daughter, Sandy DeVader (Pete) of Holton; two sisters, Nancy Cannon and Carolyn Schlodder (Roy), both of Holton; a brother Kermit Mick of Holton; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Family suggests casual dress.
