Betty Fowler 1928-2022

Betty Lee Fowler, 94, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away peacefully on Friday, June 10, 2022, in the healthcare center of Oakcrest Retirement Center in DeKalb.

She was born on May 29, 1928, in Minneapolis, Kan., to Harold Robert and Gladys Alberta Conklin Morgan. Betty grew up in Kansas attending various grade schools and Bancroft High School. She also attended Kansas State University.

On June 4, 1950, she married Wayne Lovelle Fowler in Manhattan. She taught grades 1-8 in a small school in Kansas and later became the United Way DeKalb bookkeeper. Betty was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in DeKalb, where she was a Sunday school teacher and MYF leader. She was also a PEO member, a chair on the Kishwaukee Auxiliary, member of Altrusa, Girl Scout leader and PTO member.

You could find Betty volunteering at Meals on Wheels, the church bazaar and the Oakcrest Christmas decorating. She also enjoyed sewing, crafting, reading, knitting, embroidery, handicrafts, bridge, traveling and music.

She is survived by her daughter, Debora Paul of Peoria, Ill.; son, Ronald Fowler of Tallahassee, Fla.; four granddaughters, Monica Paul, Lauren Paul, Corinne (Joey) Olson and Valaree Fowler; and three great-grandchildren, Preston, Juliana and Bode Olson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne; parents; and siblings Lloyd Morgan, Darrell Morgan and Lila Jones.

The family would like to thank Oakcrest Retirement Center and the staff of Promedica Hospice for taking care of Betty.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Kansas. She will be buried next to Wayne in the Ontario Cemetery.

The family requests no flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Betty L. Fowler Memorial Fund, sent in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115.

In lieu of a memorial gift, consider doing something nice for someone today and tell the people close to you that you love them. Betty always did so much for others; let us continue her tradition.
