Bernice Jones 1921-2017
Bernice Lucille Jones, 96, Holton, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Medicalodges Jackson County.
She was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Soldier, the daughter of Charles and Dolly Murphy Kranz. She earned her G.E.D. and attended Soldier schools. She was a life-long member of the Jackson County community.
Mrs. Jones began her career at Slimaker Dress Factory and later worked as a CNA and CMA at Jackson County Nursing Home, now Medicalodges Jackson County, retiring after 25 years.
She was a member of Holton First Baptist Church and volunteered with Head Start in Holton.
She married Willis Jones on Dec. 12, 1942. He died July 27, 1973. She married Oliver R. Jones on Jan. 25, 1975. He died Oct. 19, 2001.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Jean Brewer, Ontario, Ore., and Darlene Wade, Fruitland, Idaho; four grandchildren, Jeff Sanchez and wife Shelly and Lisa Dodson and husband Tim, all of Kearney, Mo., Tammy Sanchez, Lawrence, and Julie Gregory and husband Scott, Linwood; nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marylou Sanchez, in 2011; a son, Ronald A. Jones, in 2012; and two stepdaughters, Shirley Fellman and Donna Cook.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. A private family inurnment will be held in Holton Cemetery.
