Berdina Marshno 1940-2018

Berdina Y. “Si-be-qe” Marshno, 77, Mayetta, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

She was born Nov. 17, 1940, in Mayetta, the daughter of Joseph M. and Sylvina Curley Marshno. She attended schools in Beloit.

Ms. Marshno worked for more than 15 years at the Skinner Nursery in Topeka.

She was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

She married Charles Nephew. They divorced. She later married Ogden New. They divorced.

Survivors include five children, Carol Ann Bulson, Yvonne Nephew and Galen Nephew, all of Buffalo, N.Y., and Sherie Bowers and Dawn Barnes and husband Tim, all of Topeka; five stepchildren, Agnes, Mary, Connie, Marsha and Carlton; 15 grandchildren, Amber, Ora, Shari, Lisa, Josh, Jamie, Nicholas, Nanette, Nolita, Nathaniel, Shynowa, King, Tiffany, Rick and Shawn; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James “Jimmy” Nephew; four sisters, Arlene Hernandez, Olivia K. Wahquaboshkuk, Mary Jo Cummings and Carol Ann Marshno; two brothers, Kurlin Marshno and Joseph M. Marshno; and a grandson, Jamie Bowers.

A wake and dinner service will be held Thursday evening at the Dance ground Building. Burial will be held Friday in the Danceground Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
