Barbara Denny 1934-2020

Barbara Carleen Denny, 86, of Soldier, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020, at Onaga Health and Rehabilitation.

She was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Barney L. and Katherine (LaRochelle) Perdue. 

Barbara had lived in the Soldier community since 1988 and previously in Denver, Colo. She was a cashier at Albertson’s in Denver and at Holton Country Mart. 

She married Gerald W. Denny on June 18, 1950, in Gardner. They celebrated more than 61 years of marriage. Gerald passed away on Nov. 6, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Katherine Perdue; a sister, Dorothy Perdue; a brother, Barney A. Perdue; and two grandchildren, Teri Denny and Brian Keifer. 

Survivors include three sons, Rick Denny (Dana) of Denver, Colo., David Denny of Soldier and Joe Denny (Phyllis) of Havensville; a daughter, Brenda Bishop (Brian) of Alliance, Neb.; two sisters, Sandra Smith of Olathe and Tavy Luttrell of Shawnee; a brother, Dick Perdue of Olathe; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. 

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9 at Soldier Cemetery in Soldier. Barbara will lie in state at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton beginning Wednesday, May 6.
