Arthur Hards 1946-2017

 

Arthur Allen Hards, 70, Holton, formerly of Circleville, died Monday, June 12, 2017 at Vintage Park in Holton.

He was born Nov. 4, 1946, in Horton, the son of Raymond E. and Twila M. Long Hards. He attended Goff schools and had lived in Jackson County most of his life.

Mr. Hards served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged for medical reasons. He returned to State Control as a member of Army National Guard for another year. He had lived in the Holton Community since 1993 and had worked for Cargill in Topeka, retiring for medical reasons after 32 years.

He married Sharon Butchee on Dec. 18, 1968, in Pueblo, Colo. They divorced.

Survivors include three daughters, Vickie Duryea and husband Greg, Goff, Shannon Elliott and husband Mike, Arrington, and Stacey Curtis and husband Glen, Holton; a sister, Opal Carver, Elkland, Mo.; three brothers, Gary Hards, Denison, and William Hards and Ronald Hards, both of Holton; and five grandsons, Devin Duryea, Cody Duryea, Nathan Curtis, Phillip Elliott and David Curtis. He was preceded in death by a grandson, William Cecil Elliott, on Sept. 2, 2008.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, June 16 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Mayetta Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
