Arlena Hinton (1944-2022)

Arlena L. Hinton, age 78, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022 at Stormont Vail Hospital.

Arlena was born April 13, 1944 in Soldier, the daughter of Walter and Grace (Baker) Leach. She graduated from Soldier High School with the class of 1962. She married Kenneth Gharst, Sept. 5, 1965. He preceded her in death September of 1989. She married Gene Hinton October 19, 1996 in Topeka. He preceded her in death Aug. 7, 2012.

Arlena cared for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren most of her life. She had worked at Brewster Place in housekeeping for more than 10 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Roy Leach. She is survived by a son, Terry Gharst of Topeka; two stepsons, Duane Hinton and Larry D. Hinton, both of Topeka; a daughter, Dawn (Steven) Means of Topeka; a stepdaughter, Linda Sue Ellis of Colorado; two brothers, Chester Leach of Chapman and Arley Leach of Holton; a sister, Edith Burress of Topeka; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Rochester Cemetery. She will lie in state Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. with visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home.
