Anna Uhl 1924-2019

Anna Rose Uhl, 94, Holton, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, at Medicalodges Jackson County in Holton.

She was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, the daughter of Frank and Rose Coufal Kostiha. She graduated from high school in British Columbia.

Ms. Uhl worked for offices in Vancouver and New Westminster in Canada. After moving to the United States, she worked in offices for Sears and Roebuck and Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka. She co-owned and operated Uhl’s LayRite Floor Covering in the 1950s and 1960s in Holton and ran a drapery business. She retired from the State of Kansas, Department of Water Resources, after 14 years of service. She also raised cattle.

She was a Catholic and a member of the Bohemian Hall at Rossville.

She married John B. Uhl on Dec. 31, 1945. They divorced. He died April 28, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Frank Kostiha.

Survivors include two sons, George Uhl and Dan Uhl, both of Holton; a brother, Joseph Kostiha and wife Mona, and a sister, Frances Trent, both in Canada; four grandsons, George Ernest Uhl and wife Lisa, John Randel Uhl, Michael Dean Uhl and wife Rachael and Matthew Richard Uhl and wife Stacey; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery in Topeka. Ms. Uhl will lie in state at the funeral home, where family and friends will meet from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. today.
