Ann Meier 1935-2016

Ann Meier, 81, Waverly, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016.

Formally named Anna May Davidson, she was born on May 7, 1935, in Horton to Dorothy and James Davidson and was raised on a family farm in Netawaka. She graduated from Wetmore High School in 1953.

She married Floyd E. Meier (from Holton) on Feb. 19, 1954, in Topeka, and was married to him for 48 years (he preceded her in death in 2002). While living in Topeka, she worked briefly for the Federal Government.

She and her family then moved to Kansas City in 1963, to Ottawa in 1969 and then to a farm in Williamsburg in 1975. During that time, and for more than 20 years, she sold Kitchen Kraft cookware and won many sales achievement awards for her top sales volume.

She then pursued a second career that lasted nearly 20 years, making and selling homemade arts and crafts. She gave sacrificially of herself to care for all five of her children, especially her dearly-beloved daughter Debbie, who had Cerebral Palsy and couldn’t walk or talk. Debbie, the oldest of her five children, died in 2004 at age 48.

Other surviving children (in birth order) include Dean Meier and spouse Jeanette, Parkville, Mo., Dottie Blake and spouse Joe, Garnett, Doug Meier, Ottawa, and Dan Meier, Waverly. In addition, Ann was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Life Assembly of God, 300 W. Park Road, Garnett, KS 66032. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 at Life Assembly of God. Burial will follow at the Princeton Cemetery in Princeton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Life Assembly of God, Garnett, or the Shriners in Topeka. Condolences may be offered at www.McGilley-Frye.com
