Allan Shumaker 1949-2020

Allan “Al” Warner Shumaker, 71, of Wetmore, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

He was born Jan. 12, 1949, in Sabetha, the son of Ernest and Edith (Rebenstorf) Shumaker.

Al graduated as valedictorian from Wetmore High School in 1967. He later graduated from The University of Kansas in 1971 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of Pi Tau Sigma, Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Tau and Theta Tau, along with earning the outstanding mechanical engineering student his senior year at KU. 

He worked for Shell Oil Company and Lone Star Service Company as a drilling engineer, spending a lot of time in the Middle East. Al enjoyed building and creating many projects around his farm, but he was very passionate and took much pride in raising his purebred Hereford cattle. 

Survivors include many cousins around the Wetmore area.

Al was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold Ernest Shumaker. 

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6 at Wetmore Cemetery in Wetmore.
