Robert E. Griffiths 1929-2015

 

Robert E. Griffiths, 85, Fremont, Neb., died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at his home.

He was born Nov. 30, 1929, in Marysville, the son of Robert R. and Hilma Westburg Griffiths. He graduated from Frankfort High School and later graduated from Kansas State University in 1959.

Mr. Griffiths served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. After graduation from KSU he worked sales at various agriculture related companies. He and his fam­ily lived in Florida for a few years, then returned to Fremont, Neb., where he worked for Holdem Company and later became a manufacturing representative.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He also was active in youth baseball in Fremont for five decades, serving as general manager of the Fremont Merchants baseball team for 17 years.

He married Twila Duensing on Sept. 2, 1956. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kim Ferro and husband Frank, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; three sons, Jay Griffiths and wife Diane and Mark Griffiths, all of Fremont, Neb., and Matt Griffiths, Dallas, Texas; a sister, Shirley Brower, husband Ben and daughter Brenda, Topeka; a brother, Dr. Don Griffiths, Holton; seven grandchil­dren, Jayme Bieker and husband Adam, Erin Griffiths, Megan and Ryan Ferro, Riley Griffiths and Brittany and Alexa Griffiths; a niece, Ev Bates, husband Raymond and children Delaney, Alexis and Noah, Lake Quivira; and a great-nephew, Cameron Piehler. He was preceded in death by two nephews, Ward Piehler and Robert Brower; and a niece, Cheryl Brower.

Funeral services were held Mon­day at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont, Neb., with the Rev. Dr. David Coe officiating. Burial with military honors by the Fremont Honor Guard followed in Memorial Cemetery.
