Gary Elroy Buehler 1942-2018

It was with great sorrow that on Oct. 28, 2017, we said goodbye to Gary Elroy Buehler, DVM, 76, a 37-year resident of Lolo, Mont.

Born in Holton, Kan., on Dec. 25, 1942, Gary spent his early years in the surrounding farming community working on his parents’ farm near Mayetta until leaving for junior college.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1963 and served on the USS Patrick Henry, a George Washington-class nuclear submarine. During his time in the service, he met Donna Lee Corey of Harmony, R.I. They married in September of 1967.

After his Honorable Discharge, they moved to Manhattan, Kan., where Gary attended Kansas State University and earned his degree in veterinary medicine. In November 1969, they welcomed a daughter, Heidi, and in June 1975 they welcomed a son, Clint.

In 1980, they moved to Lolo where Gary opened his mixed veterinary practice. He had a unique ability to love and care for animals. Many were mended and those suffering were put to rest. He believed in the well-being of his patients above all else.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Iven and Lucy McAlexander Buehler.

Survivors include his wife, Donna, of Lolo; daughter Heidi of Seattle; son Clint of Missoula; a brother Greg of Mayetta; his Aunt Corky, Uncle Kent and many cousins.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Mayetta Cemetery.
