Greg Maltby 1957-2018

Gregory Charles Maltby, 60, of Overland Park, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a Memorial Mass starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W. 103rd St., Overland Park.

Greg was born June 9, 1957, in Arkansas City. He graduated from Wetmore High School and continued on to The University of Kansas for his Undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Computer Science. He was one of the first Jayhawks to be a part of their new CS program back when it was still in the Liberal Arts College. His passion for the Jayhawks and his school inspired both of his children to attend KU.

Greg continued his love of learning up through his 50s by taking more CS courses, which also enabled him to go to KU games with his kids during their undergraduates. Greg worked in the evolving computer science landscape from New Orleans and Boston to Kansas City. He loved solving problems. His final position was as a Senior Integrated Technologies Owner at Cerner Corporation.

His children were the only things he loved more than anything else in this world. He was always down to catch a beer, watch the game, or tell a story that had a great moral but wasn’t relevant to what you had been talking about.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna M. Branch Maltby.

Greg is survived by two children, Brianna and Garrett Maltby; father, Daniel D. Maltby; four siblings, Daniel P., John and Arlan Maltby and Jan Wickersheim; and extended family.
