Julie Jensen 1956-2018

Julie Beth Jensen, 61, Mayetta, died Friday, April 6, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Hospital.

She was born July 24, 1956 in Sabetha, the daughter of James Edward and Margaret Alice “Margie” Koehler Sheik. She graduated from Bern High School in 1974 and attended Kansas State University from 1974 to 1979, earning a bachelor of science degree in mathematics.

Mrs. Jensen taught mathematics for more than 10 years at Alma/Wabaunsee High School and Highland Community College. From 2001 to 2007, she worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, and from 2001 to 2012, she worked for KDHE in the Medicaid distribution department. She was currently working for the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation as a tax director.

She was a member of KSDS and Pi Beta Phi.

She married Mike Jensen on June 10, 1995, in Wabaunsee. He died June 15, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her fiancé, Hardy Eteeyan, of the home; a son, Michael Schneider and wife Jennifer, Wamego; a daughter, Laura Wiksten and husband Ryan, Andover; four sisters, Alice Aiken, San Antonio, Texas, Jeannie Rosengarten and husband Charlie, Green Valley, Ariz., Linda Raitt and husband Larry, Andover, and Cindy Scott and husband Kent, Faucett, Mo.; a brother, Bill Sheik and wife Terry, Bern; and five grandchildren, Trinity, Kyron, Brooklynn, Dillyn and Easton.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home. A meal and reception will be held around 1 p.m. Saturday at Nozhackum Hall on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation, 8362 158th Rd., Mayetta.
