Bill Sauvage 1934-2018

Billy Lee “Bill” Sauvage, 83, Linn, formerly of Havensville, died Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Linn County Nursing Home.

He was born June 1, 1934, in Emmett, the son of Carl Charles and Nellie “Mae” Day Sauvage. He lived most of his life in Havensville, Emmett and St. Clere and attended Holton and Havensville schools.

Mr. Sauvage served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. In early years, he worked for Sauvage Oil in Oberlin and the Pontiac garage in Benkelman, Neb. After moving back to Havensville, he was a heavy equipment operator at Myers Construction and also worked for McDonald Construction. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad after 20 years of service.

He was a member of Onaga American Legion Post 85.

He married Rosemary “Peach” McEvoy on Sept. 6, 1957, in McCook, Neb. They later divorced. She died July 15, 2006. He married Betty Tarvin. They later divorced. She died June 11, 2014. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Linneman; and a brother, Harvey P. Sauvage.

Survivors include two sons, Charlie Sauvage and wife Mary Ann, Clifton, and Chris Sauvage, Havensville; a daughter, Rhonda Linnemann, Clifton; a sister, Betty Myers, Havensville; a brother, Carl Eugene “Gene” Sauvage, Havensville; and four grandchildren, Melinda Sauvage, Kyle Linnemann, Chris Linnemann and Amber Baker.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Havensville Cemetery. Mr. Sauvage will lie in state at Mercer Funeral Home.
