Eleanor Sadowski 1928-2018

Eleanor M. Sadowski, 89, Holton, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at her daughter’s home.

She was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Newton, the daughter of Cecil and Velna Cummings McFarlane. She graduated from Newton High School in 1947.

Mrs. Sadowski was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton, the Altar Society at the church, a former member of the Mary Ann Circle and had sung in the church choir. She had been a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader.

She married Gerald J. “Coach” Sadowski on Dec. 14, 1947 at Newton. He died Jan. 22, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Meier; a son, Bryan Sadowski; a granddaughter, Jamie Lee Sadowski; three brothers, K.C. McFarlane, Jack McFarlane and Jim McFarlane; and a sister, Katherine Brown.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Sadowski and wife Mindy and Tim Sadowski and wife Linda G., all of Emporia, and Stan Sadowski and wife Brenda, Ozawkie; five daughters, Linda Sadowski, Silver Lake, Sandra Sadowski and husband Max, Topeka, and Marie Katz and husband Dave, Kathy Morris and husband Bruce and Marsha Taylor and husband Larry, all of Holton; two sisters, Ann Brooks, Newton, and Betty Jo Gheen, in California; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery at Holton. Mrs. Sadowski will lie in state Friday at  Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 8 p.m.
