Flags sought for upcoming retirement ceremony
Members of the Bernie Deghand American Legion Post 423 of Mayetta will be conducting two flag retirement ceremonies Saturday, April 14, for those wishing to retire an American flag, it has been reported.
Flags are now being collected in the southern part of the county for the ceremonies, which will be held 9 a.m. at Mayetta City Park and 1 p.m. at Hoyt City Park that Saturday, according to legion members.
U.S. flag code states that “the flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
