Philip Beckwith 1916-2014
Phillip Edward Beckwith, 98, Topeka, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at Midland Hospice House.
He was born July 29, 1916, in Delta, Colo., the son of Elon and Gertrude Simpson Beckwith. He was raised and educated in Delta.
Mr. Beckwith served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. After his military service he moved to Topeka. He was a dock foreman at Seymour Foods, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of Topeka North Post 400 of the American Legion.
He married Anna Marie Chaney on July 3, 1945, in Holton. She died Nov. 14, 1985. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Agnes Marie Beckwith, on Dec. 12, 1967; a grandson, Trenton Phillip Beckwith, on April 12, 1987; and a brother, Jack Beckwith.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn Beckwith, Topeka, and Lynn Beckwith and wife Jane, Ozawkie; two brothers, Kenneth Beckwith and wife Mindy, Las Vegas, Nev., and Danny Beckwith and wife Pat, Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren, Melanie Parker and husband Tully, in Virginia, Travis Beckwith and wife Heather, in Pennsylvania, and Deanna Gier and husband Tyrel, Valley Falls; and six great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Travis, Hannah, Nicholas, Colton and Katlyn.
A celebration of life service will be held from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence Ave., Topeka. Cremation will follow with interment of cremains in Holton Cemetery.
