Colyer sworn in as governor
Jeff Colyer, 57, was sworn in as the 47th governor of Kansas Wednesday afternoon after Gov. Sam Brownback’s resignation to serve as a United States ambassador for religious freedom.
On Wednesday, Jan. 24, Vice President Mike Pence cast the tie-breaking vote in the U.S. Senate to confirm Brownback’s appointment.
The role as ambassador at-large for international religious freedom was created in 1998, and Brownback will be charged with helping the U.S. government promote global religious freedom by highlighting abuses and making policy recommendations to the president and lawmakers.
A member of the Republican party, Brownback was first elected governor in 2010 and was re-elected in 2014.
