Ruby Hottman 1932-2017

Ruby Lee Hottman, 85, Holton, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at her home.

She was born Jan. 1, 1932, in Fillmore, Mo., the daughter of Charles and D. Katherine Mink Bowles. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1950. She had lived for more than 50 years in the Holton community and previously in Netawaka.

Mrs. Hottman worked for Slimaker Dress Factory for 10 years, and she was a restorative aide, a certified nurse aide and activities director at Jackson County Nursing Home for 20 years.

She was a member of Larkinburg Christian Church, Larkinburg Ladies Aid, Order of Eastern Star in Whiting, Democrat Association and Jackson County Historical Society.

She married Ray Melvin Hottman on Jan. 27, 1950, in Atchison. He survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Rhonda Hottman, Northridge, Calif., Becky Newman and husband Keith, Raymore, Mo., and Tina Brand and husband Steve, Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Lurena Hansen, formerly of Atchison; seven grandchildren, Eric Newman and wife Lynn, Daniel Newman and wife Brandie, Isaac Newman, Angela Ingram and husband Tim, Sanci Beth Toledo and husband Dalton, Chase Geer and Brandon Geer; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Pat Bowles, Lancaster, and Eleanor Hottman, Horton. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Arthur Norman Hottman and Ricky Lee Hottman; a sister, Frances Hurst; and a brother, Bill Bowles.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
