AnnaMae Brown 1931-2017

AnnaMae Brown, 86, formerly of Holton, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at the Legend at Capital Ridge Nursing Facility in Topeka.

She was born Oct. 21, 1931, at Havensville, the daughter of James and Effie Marts Mumert.

Mrs. Brown had worked at nursing homes in Nebraska and Onaga, where she was an aide and activities director.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Holton, and she had been a Sunday School superintendent and teacher, secretary and treasurer and had played the organ and the piano at various churches through the years. 

She married Vernon Silver on Nov. 7, 1947, in Holton. He died July 24, 1989. She married the Rev. Jessie Corley on July 10, 1992, in Holton. He died May 10, 1996. She married Fred L. Brown on Feb. 14, 1998 at Holton. He survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Thelma Jean Scroggins, Topeka; a stepson, Donald Brown and wife Pam, Kansas City; four stepdaughters, Carolyn Anderson and husband Lawrence, Charlotte Collingham and Sue Pater and husband Darrel, all of Topeka, and Janet Vickery, Murray, Ky.; a stepdaughter-in-law, Duranna Crouch, Topeka; several nieces and nephews; two grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her first two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Evelyn Brunkow; four brothers, John Mumert, Warren Mumert, Glen Mumert and Clifford Mumert; and a stepson, Paul Crouch.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Mrs. Brown will lie in state Tuesday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Family and friends will meet from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until service time at the church.
