Calvin Darnell 1991-2014

Calvin “Ne-Qi” Darnell, 23, Horton, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born Jan. 8, 1991, in Topeka, the son of Theresa Darnell and Lorenzo Shopteese Jr. He attended and graduated from Kickapoo Nation School and lived most of his life on the Kickapoo Reservation.
Mr. Darnell was currently working for Banner Creek Inc. in Holton. He also was a carpenter, painter and roofer.
Survivors include his mother, Theresa Darnell, Holton; a son, Calvin Darnell Jr., Mayetta; his fiancee, Suzy Jim, Mayetta; eight brothers Andrew Darnell, Adrian Darnell, Jarvis Ramirez, Nathan Switch, Aaron Switch and Dylan Nanomantube, all of Horton, Timothy Pahmahmie, Hiawatha, and Caleb Shopteese; two sisters, Sidney Switch and Devyn Nanomantube, both of Horton; his grandfather, Eldon Darnell Sr., Mayetta; his grandmother, Thamar Masquat, Horton; five aunts, Michelle Matchie, Christine Shopteese, Kristine Darnell, Bobbi Darnell and Shirley Shopteese; four uncles, Michael Shopteese, John Shopteese, Robert Nanomantube and Sonny Switch; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Lorenzo Shopteese Jr.; his paternal grandparents, Lorenzo Shopteese Sr. and Nellie Shopteese; and his maternal grandmother, Sharon “Dugie” Kahbeah.
Kennekuk funeral services were held Tuesday evening at the Kickapoo Community Building. Burial followed on Wednesday in Kennekuk Cemetery. Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton is in charge of arrangements.
