Whiting Fire Festival planned for Saturday
A day of food, fun and activities for all ages is being planned for Saturday, Sept. 26, during the Whiting Fire Festival.
The annual event is used as a fund-raiser for the Whiting Fire Department, and all the proceeds from a concession stand that day will benefit the department. In addition to the concession stand, a bake sale will be held starting at 8 a.m.
A classic car show will also be held at 9 a.m. with a separate tractor show at 10 a.m. Registration is required for both shows.
The Northeast Kansas Stock Garden Tractor Pullers will host a tractor pull that day with registration and weigh-in at 10 a.m. and pulls beginning at 11 p.m.
A live petting zoo will be set up in Whiting that day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Inflatable bounce games will also be available for kids from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Once again, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is planning to host a drunk driver obstacle course where participants drive a go-kart while wearing special goggles that impair their vision.
Line-up for the annual parade begins at 12:30 p.m. at the school building with the parade starting at 1 p.m.
Throughout the day, prizes will be given away to both adults and children. A variety of vendors are also expected to be set up during the festival.
